Our team gets super excited when we come in contact with a general contractor who has a messy desk. The desk I am referring to is their business and when I say it’s a mess, it’s a f*cking disaster.

1. The owner still picks up all the calls.2. There is no web presence other than Facebook and Instagram.3. They rely 100% on residential work by running b.s yelp ads. 4. There’s no handbook, safety manual, compliance records for their business.5. They lack processes and systems that can make them successful.

It’s the little things for us. If general contractors handle the little things then we can help them with all the bigger things with growing their business.

SMC’s business development and sales expert Brian does a phenominal job at shining light on these little things with our new clients. For instance, where does all your leads go after you’ve captured them? This may seem like a crazy question but many GCs are not prepared to answer this. They don’t know how their getting business let alone how to organize business data once obtained.

Brian mentioned something to me that has stuck with me and probably the reason I am writing this post today. He said the GC industry is caveman-like and we are showing them that fire and the wheel exists. Not only are we showing that fire, the wheel and tools exist, we help them implement it all.

The problem with most business consultants is that everyone is great at sharing how you can grow or scale your business but they leave you with a term paper at the end of the call. Nothing actually happens. I remember once, when I ran a motivational company, I hired a LinkedIn consultant for help. I thought the price tag was large enough for me to actually get things implemented – boy, was I sadly mistaken. After three calls, I was emailed a PDF with what to do and a link to schedule check-ins.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction but I need actual help. That’s why I created the Smart Movers Club, so we can be the difference. Yes, we show you what can be done to improve your business but we also install it for you. Many owners are not technical, computer savy, marketing gurus or public speakers ..but they are great at building and fixing stuff, or making buildings, rooms, and structures look amazing. Why should we add “grab this AI tool for this, send out weekly newsletters, set up a marketing campaign, bid on these projects and clean your CRM” to the list?

If GCs are well versed and have an internal team to get things done then yes, be my guest.

The ones we are coming across needs help. Real help. Tangible help.

If you are the type of owner, general contractor, or entrepreneur that want to learn to do these things yourself then I can point you in many directions.

Yes, we would like to write 10-20 bids per month for you but if we don’t have your desk in order then we have to start there first. Yes, we want to pump a steady flow to your pipeline in commercial and state work but we may have to grab some pine sol and shine that desk down first. We help you restore order in a chaotic and caveman-like industry.

You already have enough to worry about on job sites. Why should your phone not be answered because you’re on a roof.
